Meet Paul (Stoney)

As a surprise for his hard work we bought out his cart for the day and fed the eggs and sausages at the HOPE program.

If you’ve already opened your Hero Mail this month, you know that Paul is the proud owner of a thriving food cart in town. But what a postcard can’t fully capture is the sheer depth of the journey it took to get him there.

When Paul first started coming around 29:11, he was incredibly quiet. He carried the heavy, invisible walls that survival on the streets builds up around a kid. For a long time, he would silently take his meals and slip away back into the shadows, unsure if he could truly trust us.

But patience is our superpower around here. Week after week, meal after meal, those walls began to crumble. Over the years, a deep, unbreakable trust grew between Paul and our team.

Today, Paul isn’t just a participant in our programs, he has become one of our most trustworthy allies on the ground. Because of his sharp English skills, he frequently steps up to translate for us when we are communicating with newer kids or community members. Even better, he uses his own story to advocate for us, encouraging the newer street kids to drop their guards, pull up a chair, and hear us out. He is living proof of what happens when we refuse to give up on a child.
